Armin Bieser, CEO of Next Mobility Labs, shares how we define and actively shape the Next-level Mobility Ecosystem: a strategic tool that drives how we build ventures, connect sectors, and lead sustainable innovation in the mobility space.
The Next-level Mobility Ecosystem serves as the compass for our investment strategy, a daily-used instrument to maintain overview in times of global transformation. With its three roles and four sectors, centered on people, it structures our activities to contribute to the sustainable transformation of mobility. The form is an expression of our efforts to take a holistic approach to this complex topic. The basic human need for mobility – a key driver of prosperity – can and must be satisfied sustainably in the future. The transportation of people and goods causes almost a quarter of carbon dioxide emissions worldwide.
The challenge is to significantly reduce emissions within a few years without curtailing our own quality of life and the opportunities for economic growth in poor countries. Fresh ideas and innovative technologies are needed, along with new thinking beyond traditional industries: Current challenges can only be solved holistically and collaboratively. The interconnection within an ecosystem provides mutual benefits to participating companies and greater added value to end customers.
Sectors and Roles in the Ecosystem
Digital technologies are the key to next-level mobility. Simply replacing combustion technology with electric drives is not enough. The prerequisite for a real transformation is the interconnection of all four relevant sectors of this ecosystem:
Vehicles
Energy
Infrastructure
Operations
AI brings intelligence and efficiency to this interconnected system. Real-time data collection and analysis enable applications such as autonomous vehicles or sharing platforms. Companies in this mobile ecosystem take on different roles in relation to end customers or partners. Three roles in particular can be distinguished – they serve as another dimension in structuring our activities as a venture studio:
Orchestrators offer products or services to end customers (e.g. Getyourdrive)
Realisers create products or services and provide them for end customers (e.g. Mercedes)
Enablers support Realisers and Orchestrators with products or services (e.g. Circunomics)

Our Strategic Planning Tool
With the Next-level Ecosystem, we have created a strategic planning tool that helps us drive the transformation of mobility together with our Entrepreneurs-in-Residence. As a sector-specific venture studio, we offer founders and investors worldwide the opportunity to benefit from our expertise: tech-savvy, problem-solving, value-driven.
